Richard Burns - Managing Director

Richard founded The Freelance FD in 2006 after leaving a General Management position with a household name British PLC. He identified the Freelance FD concept as a way of bringing top-level Financial skills to the SME market and to others with a short-term need.

An energetic and commercial Finance professional, he displays a highly practical approach to strategic planning, business development and management focussed on boosting shareholder value. This has been developed throughout a successful career involving start-up, high growth and restructuring situations as well as mergers and acquisitions.

Combines a record of more than 12 years working at Board level within UK, US and Japanese public companies with the hands-on, entrepreneurial experience of starting up a privately-funded telecoms business. Built a profitable business across 8 European countries with more than 1 million customers and revenues of £66 million.

Recently operating in the Telecoms & Technology sector, also has experience in Manufacturing, Professional Services, Electronics, Pharmaceuticals, Oil & Gas and FMCG. Has the flexibility of approach to adapt to any fast-moving & challenging environment.
